Dr Ajita Kanthan completed his undergraduate medical training at the University of Sydney in 2000, following up with specialising in internal medicine and adult cardiology at Westmead Hospital in 2008. In 2013 he earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Medicine from the University of Sydney. Dr Kanthan undertook further cardiac subspecialty training in cardiac rhythm management in Italy, under the supervision of Professor Silvia Priori at the Molecular Cardiology and Electrophysiology Laboratories, Fondazione Salvatore Maugeri and at Monash HEART in Melbourne.

Dr Kanthan is a visiting medical officer at a number of hospitals including Sydney Adventist, Norwest Private and Blacktown Hospital. He is also the senior cardiologist for Sonic Health and a senior lecturer at the Western Sydney University.

Dr Kanthan's key point of focus is rhythm disorders, treating all forms of rhythm disorders including atrial fibrillation, supraventricular tachycardia and ventricular tachycardia. Additionally, Dr Kanthan also performs all types of device implants including loop recorders, leadless and traditional pacemaker, subcutaneous and traditional defibrillators and bi-ventricular resynchronisation devices.

Today, Dr Ajita Kanthan is probably best known for his pioneering work in the use of radiation-free procedural techniques, having performed the first radiation-free transvenous pacemaker implant in Australia.

Research

Dr Kanthan is currently focused on the development of radiation-free procedural techniques for the treatment of all cardiac rhythm disorders.
